Every week, Child Care Resources will publish The Bored Jar blog, which will provide you with ideas of activities to do with the children in your care. We know that much of the correspondence we send has to do with rules and regulations, but The Bored Jar will only be filled with fun activities. Whenever you’re bored with your kids, try some of our Bored Jar ideas!
Turning Pinecones into Strawberries
Taking kids outside to collect pinecones can be much like a treasure hunt. Once the treasure is found, it can be brought indoors and transformed into something entirely different…a strawberry.
Wrap yarn around small to medium sized pinecones. Apply a drop of hot glue to the top of the pinecone when the yarn wrapping has reached the top. Place the end of the strand of yarn on the drop of hot glue and apply a felt leaf to the top of the pinecone.
Once the strawberries are completed, children can sing the following song:
If you’re made of strawberry, you’re lovely, lovely
If you’re made of lemon, you’re not for me
If you’re made of strawberry, you’re lovely, lovely
If you’re made of onion, you’re not for me
If you’re made of strawberry, you’re lovely, lovely
If you’re made of mushroom, you’re not for me
You can listen to the song at “Boowa and Kwala’s Website”:http://www.boowakwala.com/kids/boowakwala-adventures-strawberry-strawberrysong.html
